Even if you can’t make it to New York, for example, to see a touted museum exhibition most large museums have made their exhibitions accessible through the web. For example, a recent show opened at New York’s Museum of Modern Art entitled “Lucien Freud: The Painter’s Etchings.” Given the recent auction records set for the artist and the surge of interest in this artist who has become a contemporary blue chip artist this exhibition will likely appeal to many contemporary art fans. MoMA has made the full exhibition available on their website (www.moma.org) so that viewers can see the works in the show and even zoom in on each image to get down to the fine details in the etchings. The site also features information about the portrait sitters as well as details about the artist’s technique. While there is certainly no substitute for seeing artwork in person this technology has made it possible for distance viewers to see something they would otherwise have missed.
